Kinburn Carnival channels spirit of All-Star game

EMC Events - Couldn't get tickets to this year's NHL All-Star Game in Ottawa last weekend? Well, head to Kinburn this weekend for some all-star fun.

The Kinburn Community Association (KCA) is hosting its annual Kinburn Winter Carnival Feb. 2-5. A number of activities have been organized to get people to enjoy the great outdoors, but there will be indoor activities at the Kinburn Community Centre as well.

This year's theme 'All-Star Hockey 2012' pays tribute to the star-studded hockey event with the fun starting today (Thursday) with a six-handed euchre tournament in the community centre, starting at 1:15 p.m.

According to KCA president Jayne Coady, the KCA executive is excited to be "cooking up" a spaghetti supper in the main hall Friday, Feb. 3. Supper runs from 6-7:30 p.m. After supper, head to the rink for the skating party from 7-9 p.m. The social evening will continue in the main hall with music provided by West Carleton's own Colt 45 DJ Services until 11 p.m./

BIG DAY SATURDAY

Saturday is the big day of winter carnival fun with activities starting at 9 a.m. with the West Carleton Outdoor Hockey League games.

"We are pleased to promote our small parade at 11:30 a.m. from the fire hall to the community centre which will include an appearance from "Francis the Frog", our homegrown Swampfest Mascot," said Coady, adding West Carleton-March Coun. Eli El-Chantiry will also be taking part in the parade.

From noon until 3 p.m., enjoy lunch provided by the Bethel United Church at a cost of $5 for adults and $3 for kids. At 1 p.m., the Kinburn All-Stars hit the ice against local firefighters for a challenge hockey game.

CRASH THE CLOWN

"Crash the Clown will joining us to celebrate our festival along with sleigh rides (weather permitting) from Ken Carroll," added Coady.

There will also be outdoor games, skating, skills competition and tug of war competitions.

And you don't want to forget the annual dessert auction by area auctioneer John O'Neill at 2:30 p.m.

"The day will close by 5 p.m. so that we can set up for an excellent KCA executive cooked breakfast on Sunday, Feb, 5," Coady stated. "Come for great food and enjoy The Van Barr Family musical entertainment!/
